MAUI BY DEFAULT

And here we are in Canberra
I found and met my birth mother in 1986, when she was 64 and I was 43; I was born in England during the war, and she gave me up for adoption. My adoptive parents immigrated to Canada, and she emigrated to Australia.
In 2001, a friend who was a flight attendant with Air Canada gave me a pass for Australia - through Maui, Hawaii. That's when the trouble started. I was to go to the airport every night at midnight to see if I could get on a flight to Sydney - I was a "C5" - which meant I was on the bottom of the totem pole!!!
The short version is that I was marooned in Maui for 5 days! So I made the best of it and had a wonderful time with the locals and going on tours.
Finally, I PAID for a ticket; as much as I loved Maui, my priority was seeing my mother after 15 years.

Hi Barbara!
Thanks so much for contributing your Maui travel story!
You must have been SO impatient to get on a plane to Sydney! (I know I would have been if I had been in your shoes!) I'm glad to hear that you had a great 5 day mini Maui vacation of sorts, despite being there for longer than you'd hoped!
And thank-you for the great picture too! It's always great to be able to match a face with the story!
Thanks again for submitting your story!
