Headed to Maui? Cheap Airfare is on the Want List for Sure!If you're like me, in your quest to travel to Maui cheap airfare is something of interest to you. Have you read countless advice columns and webpages promising to tell you their secrets to obtaining this elusive prize? Does cheap airfare to Maui Hawaii actually exist? Do you want my honest answer? Do you want to cut through the hype? Well, if you can travel to Maui, Hawaii on very short notice, and you don't mind "flying by the seat of your pants" so to speak, then it might be possible to obtain a fantastic deal for Maui cheap airfare. How does one obtain these fantastic deals? Here are a few ways of doing this. 1) One can fly for a courier company. Apparently they can't send parcels without having a person to fly on the same airplane with the goods. The plus: Cheap airfare to Maui Hawaii! The negatives: If you are lucky enough to be chosen, you will be flying on extremely short notice. Also, you will not be allowed any checked baggage - only a carry-on. Lastly, since there are more people who want these flights than flights are available, it is very tough to get a cheap flight to Maui Hawaii in this manner. 2) One can go to a site such as airtech.com. What do they have to offer? Cheap flights IF you are able to fly with as little as 24 hours notice, and are flexbible in your departure and arrival city. Basically, you purchase a flight pass from them, and when you are ready to fly, you e-mail them your "travel window" (ie. the range of dates that you are available to fly), as well as your preferred departure and arrival city. If a flight is available, they will e-mail you to confirm if you want it. 3) Try to get bumped. This may not save you money on your current trip, but if they choose you to be bumped, you may be able to get a free ticket for your next trip. Of course, you have to be willing to delay your arrival to Maui while you wait for the next available flight. Cheap airfare, hotels, car rentals, vacations and cruises at Expedia.com! How does one go about getting bumped? Travel during peak times. Arrive at the airport plenty early before your flight, and ask to be put at the top of the list for volunteers to get bumped. With any luck, the airline will have overbooked your flight and you'll be the lucky one to be bumped and able to collect a free ticket for your next trip! Final Thoughts on Maui and Cheap Airfare:If you choose to try a strategy like numbers 1 or 2, it could make it tough to get hotel accommodations for a cheap price... many, if not most, hotels charge full price for their rooms to travelers who check in without booking ahead of time. The savings you get by flying to Maui with cheap airfare at the last minute, may be canceled out by having to pay more for your hotel.I thought that maybe one could get around this problem by camping on Maui instead of staying in a hotel... heck, the weather in Maui is fantastic... so what better place to go camping? But, you must apply for a camping permit if you wish to camp in a state park. If you're doing this from home, which I'm assuming is NOT Maui for you, these permits must be applied for weeks in advance, to ensure it gets back to you in time. Plus, camping spots can fill up quickly. If you plan on trying to book a camping spot at the last minute, there is a risk of finding nothing available. There are also a few private campgrounds on Maui, but they, too, have a risk of being booked full if you wait until the last minute. Ultimately, I think strategies 1 and 2 are most appropriate for someone lucky enough to be staying with friends or family while in Maui. Those folks won't have to worry about finding last minute accommodations. For most of us, I think option 3 is the best strategy for getting to Maui with cheap airfare. You'll already have your hotel booked (hopefully at a discount rate!), and if you manage to get on the next flight, you won't have missed too much of your vacation - plus, if things go your way, you'll have a free airline ticket for your next vacation.
